WWE Studios has now released a few entertaining films. While still seeking that certified genre homerun, we have seen the studio gift us a few enjoyable slashers in See No Evil and See No Evil 2, and they did have some involvement in both The Call and Oculus, two solid genre efforts. In April the company will unleash a new action-coated thriller, Countdown. It sounds fast-paced and it’s got some huge talent behind the camera in the form of director John Stockwell (who starred as Dennis in Christine, and has directed noteworthy horror efforts, Dark Tide and Turistas), Predators writer Michael Finch and Richard Wenk, who wrote the extremely brutal Denzel Washington flick, The Equalizer. Needless to say, we’ve got our eyes on the film, which involves kidnapped kids and psychopaths, two things we’re not foreign to in the genre.
Today we’re getting word that WWE will see the film delivered on Blu-ray (plus Digital HD), DVD (plus Digital), Digital HD and On Demand on Tuesday, April 5.
Katharine Isabelle (See No Evil 2, Ginger Snaps), Nick “Dolph Ziggler” Nemeth (Shallow Hal, No Way Out), Glenn “Kane” Jacobs (See No Evil, See No Evil 2), and Catherine Lough Haggquist (Elysium, Godzilla) star.
Featuring cameos by WWE Superstars Rusev and WWE Diva Lana, Countdown is the first-ever WWE Studios film to shoot and include live event footage. Countdown will be available on Blu-ray and DVD at the suggested retail price of $19.99 and $19.98, respectively.
Bonus disc supplements include:
- “Dolph Ziggler: From Superstar to Action Star” Featurette
- “An Explosive Escape” Featurette
Synopsis: When a madman kidnaps a young boy and rigs him with explosives, Ray (Ziggler), haunted by the loss of his young son, defies his captain (Kane) and takes matters into his own hands. Now he must beat the clock to stop a psychopath and save an innocent child.
