Rumors of a sequel to 2009’s hit horror comedy Zombieland have swirled for years; it was even pitched to Netflix as a series back in 2013 (Netflix passed on the project). The film’s co-writers, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, however, appeared on AMC’s Geeking Out (hosted by Kevin Smith and Greg Gunberg) last week where they promised Zombieland 2 is definitely in the works:
“That is breaking news that we’re on Zombieland 2 right now. We’re sitting with Woody [Harrelson]tomorrow and are going to sort of walk him through some of the stuff we want to do. All the cast is pretty excited.”
In the original Zombieland: After a virus turns most people into zombies, the world’s surviving humans remain locked in an ongoing battle against the hungry undead. Four survivors — Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) and his cohorts Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) — abide by a list of survival rules and zombie-killing strategies as they make their way toward a rumored safe haven in Los Angeles.
We’ll keep you posted as details regarding Zombieland 2 emerge.
