Most Horror Freaks agree that art imitates life as a reflection of society’s fears and anxieties—especially films that are based (however tenuously) or real-life events. But there are examples of life imitating art, making some horror movies all the more terrifying for the purported violence they inspired. While there has never been a scientifically established link between watching horror movies and the desire to commit destructive acts, some situations will definitely cause you to take pause.

It’s a stark reminder that teenagers and the mentally ill sometimes have trouble differentiating between fiction and reality—and that the paranormal may indeed exist!
