During a press tour for Don’t Breathe, the latest feature film from director Fede Alvarez, questions turned to the filmmakers past effort, the amazing 2013 remake of Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead. Recap:
Alvarez: “[The Evil Dead] extended cut will come out on blu-ray. Just a few hours ago we talked about the study and it seems that Halloween will be available.”
This morning, the folks at Bloody-Disgusting.com got the exclusive news that the extended cut will be available on October 25th via VOD.
Being released solely on digital platforms, we also have the exclusive artwork debut [below] and can confirm the new Unrated Edition carries an additional 5-minutes of footage “that was too intense for theaters, allowing fans the perfect chance to see Fede Alvarez’s unedited vision for the film.” This will also be the first time that digital extras will be available on Evil Dead.
This is great news for hardcore gore hounds!
In the original Evil Dead remake: Mia (Jane Levy), a drug addict, is determined to kick the habit. To that end, she asks her brother, David (Shiloh Fernandez), his girlfriend, Natalie (Elizabeth Blackmore) and their friends Olivia (Jessica Lucas) and Eric (Lou Taylor Pucci) to accompany her to their family’s remote forest cabin to help her through withdrawal. Eric finds a mysterious Book of the Dead at the cabin and reads aloud from it, awakening an ancient demon. All hell breaks loose when the malevolent entity possesses Mia.
