As a rule, I avoid musicals; when it comes to horror musicals, however, I’m almost always happily suppressed—and delightfully terrified. The remake of Stage Fright and the recent Polish import The Lure are some excellent examples of horror musicals done right. Another nice film making waves overseas is the Scottish offering Anna and the Apocalypse.

Mixing Christmas and horror with campy musical numbers looks to be a stroke of genius. Anna and the Apocalypse arrives on US shores sometime this Fall, courtesy of Orion Pictures; in the meantime, peep the trailer and synopsis below.
Official Synopsis: A zombie apocalypse threatens the sleepy town of Little Haven – at Christmas – forcing Anna and her high school friends to fight, sing and slash their way to survival with a fast-spreading undead horde in relentless pursuit. Teaming up with her best friend John, Anna and her crew fight their way through zombified snowmen, a ravenous bachelor party and high school hormones to try and save family and faculty alike. But they soon discover that no one is safe in this new world, and the only people they can truly rely on are each other.
Anna and the Apocalypse is directed by John McPhail from a script penned by Alan McDonald and Ryan McHenry; the film stars Ella Hunt, Malcolm Cumming, and Sarah Swire.
