Ever since episode three (of season six) of The Walking Dead aired we’ve all had one enormous question on our minds: Could Glenn have survived what looked to be a guaranteed death at the hands… and teeth of the hordes of walkers that surrounded him and Nicholas? We know good and well Nick didn’t make it, but there are some hints that maybe, just maybe Glenn made it out of that horrific scene.
Just to bring you up to speed, before we move forward, we’ll briefly recap the later moments of episode three, titled “Thank You.”
Glenn and Nicholas find themselves surrounded by the undead. They climb onto a large dumpster to evade the creatures and Nicholas decides the fight is all over for him. He puts a pistol to the side of his head and proceeds to blow his brains all over Glenn’s face. Glenn then instinctively tries to catch Nicholas’ falling body and they both tumble to the ground, where the zombies have gathered in a sizable group. We then see what appears to be Glenn having his insides turned outside. But just seconds prior we also see that there may be enough room beneath that dumpster for Glenn to get out of dodge.
But there are other problems with the scene.
First, while watching blood spout from – presumably – Glenn, we take note that intestines are being pulled from what looks like the chest area of Glenn. We all know that no matter how long our large intestine may be, it’s not located in the upper chest area. We also must take into account the manner in which Glenn and Nicholas fall: with Nicholas landing on top of Glenn.
That alone suggests that perhaps our loveable errand boy may have been able to avoid an immediate chomp.
Another compelling clue actually arrived months back when the season six trailer was unveiled at Comic-Con. While sorting through the four-minute trailer we see Maggie and Aaron walking through a sewage tunnel. At the time that meant little to us, but after seeing the trailer for next week’s episode, we’re realizing there could be a correlation between that sewer scene and Glenn’s survival.
In the opening seconds of the new trailer for next week’s episode we spot Aaron and Maggie discussing some serious business. Aaron let’s Maggie know he can’t let her “do this.” We may be reaching, but let’s just say that they’re referencing a search for Glenn. That could mean that Aaron and Maggie are utilizing the sewage tunnels to track Glenn. It’s another possible escape route for Glenn. If the crafty kid can get under that dumpster, and make his way to a manhole, he might very well escape into manageable – even if foul smelling – territory.
It’s all a stretch, but right now we’re thinking that Glenn manages to wriggle beneath that dumpster, hide out until the carnage shambles away and get himself beneath the surface, where, hopefully (we’re really hoping) he can get his wits about him and make an escape without having suffered a potentially life ending would.
We’ll be forced to wait a few more days (at minimum) to find out if this theory is accurate, but we’ve got faith in little ole Glenn and we’ve got our fingers crossed that he meets up with Aaron and Maggie in the corridors of stink!
