CBR set the Internet ablaze last week when they reported that footage of Shane Black’s The Predator released during a panel at Comic-Con confirmed the existence of female Predators. They refer to s scene in which Olivia Munn is tangling with a female Yautja before they’re both attacked by a 10-foot “Upgraded Predator”. Intriguing news to say the least. Unfortunately, it’s almost certainly not true.
While the Predator Munn battles is indeed smaller than Mr. Upgraded, it’s still you’re typical, run-of-the-mill, male Yautja. CBR apparently misunderstood, or purposely skewed ambiguous information to garner web traffic. Perhaps it all relates back to a joke told by cast-member Keegan-Michael Key who said the only way to know the sex of a Predator is “to look down there”. Long story short: The consensus is that female Predators are about as likely as a cameo from Arnold Schwarzenegger. In other words, it’s possible, but don’t bank on it.
Check out the video below from Mr. H for a complete breakdown of the hubbub.
The Predator invades US Theaters on September 14th. Give the trailer and synopsis a look-see below.
From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home. The universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
In addition to Munn and Key, the film’s sizable ensemble cast includes Thomas Jane, Jake Busey, Trevante Rhodes, Boyd Holbrook, Jacob Tremblay, and Augusto Aguilera.
