Just days ago our monthly Netflix breakdown went live, and in said piece we reminded you that, while the announced monthly additions weren’t all too impressive, there would no doubt be a few surprises landing on the VOD outlet throughout the coming 29 days. Today marks the first sneaky additions, and one of them – The Diabolical – is a decent little film that features some familiar faces.
While not genuinely spectacular, he picture exhibits heart by breaking a few rules, and the production values are respectful enough to keep most invested. If you’re anti-micro films, you won’t be repulsed by the image you see here. Alistair Legrand directs the picture, marking what must be considered a successful debut. Genre princess Ali Larter (Resident Evil: Extinction, Resident Evil: Afterlife, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, Final Destination, Final Destinatin 2 and House on Haunted Hill mark her most noteworthy genre efforts), Joe Egender (The Hamiltons, The Frankenstein Theory, Hunger), Arjun Gupta (Nurse Jackie) and Max Rose fill out the cast.
Two new films are actually on Netflix today, and while our emphasis falls on The Diabolical, we don’t want to snooze on another new piece. The Hollow is a mystery to me, but it was also just thrown into the lineup. The made-for-television flick was directed by Sheldon Wilson (Carny) and stars Stephanie Hunt (April Apocalypse), Sarah Dugdale (Sorority Murder), Alisha Newton (Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters) and Deborah Kara Unger (Silent Hill). It might be worth your time.
In The Hollow it’s Halloween eve on Shelter Island, and the small town is preparing for a killer storm. But the dark clouds gathering over the island are bringing with them a curse one-hundred years in waiting. As the woods give birth to an ungodly and insatiable creature of fire, bones, and earth, three sisters must scramble to stay alive through the long dark night of the Hollow. For it’s not something you can kill. It’s only something you can try and survive.
Below you’ll find the breakdown of The Diabolical. Be sure to keep up with HFN, where we’ll be informing you of other new additions to Netflix as they arrive.
Synopsis: Madison, a single mother, and her children, are awoken nightly by an increasingly strange and intense presence. She seeks help from her scientist boyfriend Nikolai, who begins a hunt to destroy the violent spirit that paranormal experts are too frightened to take on.
