Short films make for the perfect viewing experience for those of us with a sketchy attention span. That’s why they’re extremely popular with genre fanatics who struggle to make it through a two-hour film.
The latest big buzz short, Night of the Slasher is in the running for Best Narrative Short at two Oscar qualifying festivals. The first being the St. Louis International Film Festival in Missouri, USA and the second being the Foyle Film Festival in Ireland. If the picture happens to win, it will be eligible for an Oscar nomination!
By the look of the film, that consideration is well deserved.
The flick, written and directed by Shant Hamassian, stars Lily Berlina (The Slasher Girl), Scott Javore (The Bait), and Adam Lesar (The Killer) and is about a teenage girl who must commit horror movie sins by drinking alcohol, doing drugs, and having sex in order to lure a masked killer to her humble abode in order to exact revenge.
Night of the Slasher has been nominated for 28 awards and has won 15 including Best Short, Best Actress, and Best Cinematography.
Just to give you an idea of how bad ass the film is we’ve pieced together an extremely brief review, you know, just to entice you!
The film is absolutely brilliant, shot in a single take with creativity in abundance. It’s all about one lonely girl with a troubled past who intentionally sets out to break every “horror rule” there is, all in a bid to lure a slasher into her home where the two can engage in a one-on-one, bloody showdown. The cinematography is excellent, the pacing is break-neck and the performances are to die for. Of all the recent shorts I’ve seen, this is a serious treasure!
