As predominantly negative reviews were reigning down on Adam Wingard’s Blair Witch last September, writer Simon Barrett dropped a bit of information that could radically change viewer’s perceptions of the film. One of the movie’s saving graces seemed to be the reveal of the Witch, the central character of the franchise who had, until them, remained unseen.
Except it wasn’t. To recap:
Responding to a fan Tweet yesterday, Barrett dropped a shocker: “You don’t see the witch on screen. That’s someone else!”
This will surely open Blair Witch up to additional interpretations and increased fan speculation. Barrett promises to reveal more secrets in the commentary when Blair Witch arrives on Blu-Ray and DVD later this year. “Our DVD commentary will explain a lot, but hopefully without ruining anything, as do we want to leave some elements mysterious,” Barrett explains.
We finally have a release date and extras on said Blair Witch Blu-ray/DVD, arriving January 3rd, and includes a 6-part “Making Of” Documentary. No doubt it’s here, and within the Director and Writer Commentaries, that the promised secrets will be revealed. Check out the specs below:

Official Synopsis: A young man and his friends venture into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mystery surrounding his missing sister. Many believe her disappearance 17 years earlier is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. At first the group is hopeful, especially when two locals act as guides through the dark and winding woods. As the night wears on, a visit from a menacing presence soon makes them realize that the legend is all too real, and more sinister than they could have ever imagined.
