Way back in April, we couldn’t help but notice an abundance of nuns in The Conjuring Universe, following the appearance of Valak (played by Bonnie Aarons) who shocked and enthralled audiences in The Conjuring 2. Not only was the unholy entity getting her own spinoff in 2018, a major character in Annabelle: Creation is a nun (Sister Charlotte, played by Stephanie Sigman). Hmm… prequel?
Well, Annabelle: Creation hit US Theaters today, and the cat’s out of the bag. While we can’t say for certain whether Creation is a prequel or a sequel to The Nun, we can confirm that the stories are interconnected; Valak (Bonnie Aarons) appears in two critical moments, including a stunning post credits stinger.
The connection will no doubt become more concrete when The Nun, directed by Corin Hardy and starring Taissa Farmiga, Charlotte Hope, and Demián Bichir hits theaters on July 13th, 2018 (the production is currently shooting in Eastern Europe). Here’s what we know at this moment:
The Nun is being directed by Hardy from a script penned by IT scribe Gary Dauberman and franchise creator James Wan. The film is set to being filming in Romania this week with a target release date of Friday, July 18th, 2018. It will be a while before we have a trailer, but check out the trailer and synopsis for The Conjuring 2, which introduced The Nun, below.
Also, check out the trailer and synopsis for Annabelle: Creation, directed by David F. Sandberg, below.
Official Synopsis: Former toy maker Sam Mullins and his wife Esther are happy to welcome a nun and six orphaned girls into their California farmhouse.
