Yesterday, we reported that Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon was hoping to make a Back to the Future-esque sequel to the time-loop terror flick. Of course, if he had used an alternate ending that was shot for the movie, a sequel would have been none-too-easy!
WARNING: Below There Be Spoilers!
In the film, Tree (played by Jessica Rothe) is mercilessly dogged by a slasher in a baby mask who is eventually revealed to be her roommate, motivated by moral indignation and perceived insults. The fact that Tree had previously participated in an illicit affair with one of her professors is completely glossed-over, even though those who indulge in illicit sex are usually meat-grinder material in horror movies.

In the unused/alternate ending, recently shared online, Tree survives her roommate’s extreme case of sour grapes only to get her comeuppance as a home-wrecker. We see Tree flatline, but that doesn’t necessarily mean a sequel would have been impossible in this scenario. The protagonist could be resuscitated or perhaps start a new time loop in which she must outsmart a scored wife.

Official Synopsis: Tree Gelbman is a blissfully self-centered collegian who wakes up on her birthday in the bed of a student named Carter. As the morning goes on, Tree gets the eerie feeling that she’s experienced the events of this day before. When a masked killer suddenly takes her life in a brutal attack, she once again magically wakes up in Carter’s dorm room unharmed. Now, the frightened young woman must relive the same day over and over until she figures out who murdered her.
In addition to Rother, Happy Death Day stars Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine, and Charles Aitken.
