The curse of 2015 continues on as yet another (the number, at this point, has become staggering) stellar thespian has departed the world. Fred Thompson has passed away at the age 73 from a recurrence of lymphoma.
Thompson, who enjoyed a career as a U.S. senator for the state of Tennessee from 1994 until 2003, appeared in more than 50 productions. His genre contributions include work in Sinister and Cape Fear, but loyal fans will remember him from his roles in Die Hard 2, In the Line of Fire, Days of Thunder, The Hunt for Red October and extended stints on Law & Order, Law & Order: Trial by Jury and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
He was a versatile, warm performer who left an indelible impression on fans.
In a statement to the Nashville Tennessean, his family wrote, “It is with a heavy heart and a deep sense of grief that we share the passing of our brother, husband, father, and grandfather who died peacefully in Nashville surrounded by his family.”
We too, shall miss you, Mr. Thompson. You were a fine performer and a powerhouse in front of the camera. Our condolences go out to Thompson’s family, friends and contemporaries.
