Despite launching her TV career in 1994 with a guest spot on Law & Order, Sarah Paulson was almost completely unknown to genre fans until she became a fan favorite on American Horror Story. Paulson has been a mainstay on the series, launched in 2011, and sometimes plays multiple roles in a single season. We’re looking forward to learning about her next character, Ally, when American Horror Story: Cult premieres on September 5th.
Since she’s nearly synonymous with American Horror Story, I was excited to hear that Paulson will be branching out, having recently accepted a role in M. Night Shyamalan’s next project, a sequel to both Unbreakable and Split, Glass. Shyamalan previously gushed about how excited he is about Glass, and revealed hopes to release the film in January of 2019.
In addition to Paulson, Glass will feature James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy, Bruce Willis, and Samuel L. Jackson, all reprising their previous roles.
Shyamalan dropped the news himself via Twitter:
— M. Night Shyamalan (@MNightShyamalan) July 24, 2017
M. Night Shyamalan is enjoying a personal renascence; the filmmaker who took the world by storm in the early 2000s with the megahits The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable faltered with films like The Lady in the Water and The Happening before becoming a near-parody of himself by helming clunkers like The Last Airbender and the Smith Family vanity pic After Earth. Everything turned around with The Visit in 2015, and this year’s Split will definitely feature prominently in many Best Films of 2017 lists.
Following the reveal that Split was actually a sequel to Unbreakable, Shyamalan confirmed a deal had been struck with producer Jason Blum.
We’ll keep you posted on Glass and Sarah Paulson related news as details emerge. Stay tuned! In the meantime, check out the trailer for American Horror Story: Cult below.
