In 2020 the retooled Dark Universe featuring the Universal monsters takes another turn. Not only are we getting a Leigh Whannell helmed INVISIBLE MAN but we are getting another film featuring a very odd choice.
Instead of the Creature or the Wolfman, we are getting a new film, from a pitch by The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman – of Dracula’s right-hand man, Renfield with ROCKETMAN director Dexter Fletcher signed on to direct.
For those that don’t recall, Renfield was an insect-eating inmate at an insane asylum who was secretly a servant of the nefarious Count Dracula.
The script – being penned by “Rick & Morty” writer Ryan Ridley – has no details but is believed to be set in the modern-day.
When THE MUMMY failed, Universal retooled things and aligned themselves with the current king of lower budget horror Blumhouse to get THE INVISIBLE MAN ready to go, and now a RENFIELD film. There are also rumors that Universal is meeting with directors for a new take on FRANKENSTEIN that James Wan is attached to produce.
