Horror fans have been watching Mike Flanagan’s rising star for years now, but the filmmaker endeared himself to fickle Stephen King fans following his knock-out adaptation of Gerald’s Game in 2017. Now, the director has set his sites on another Stephen King property; while Doctor Sleep isn’t one of the bestselling author’s best-known works, it’s actually a sequel to The Shining.

The Shining is considered one of the most terrifying novels ever penned and the 1980 film adaptation, directed by Stanley Kubrick, still inspires vigorous debates among genre aficionados to this day. Doctor Sleep features a grown-up Danny Torrance. We knew Flanagan was attached to direct a Doctor Sleep feature film, but now, we have a release date—proof the production is making significant headway!
Bloody Disgusting has revealed that Dr. Sleep is slated for release on January 24, 2020.
Official Synopsis: Doctor Sleep takes place years after the events at the Overlook Hotel and focuses on the now middle-aged Danny who is still traumatized. He’s followed in his father’s footsteps and has problems with anger management and alcoholism. He soon gives up drinking and settles in a small town in New Hampshire. While there, his psychic abilities start to resurface and he develops a psychic link with a 12-year-old girl named Abra Stone who he must save after he discovers her life is being threatened by a tribe of paranormals led by a man named Rose the Hat.
