Those who regularly read our reviews already know that I consider Raw one of the best horror movies of 2017 so far. I mentioned the film is so deep with subtext, there was no way for me to discuss everything Raw had to offer in a traditional review. Plus, many of Raw’s most compelling themes and moments couldn’t be discussed without revealing major spoilers. This article is for those who have already seen the grotesque coming of age body horror and wish to get into the nitty gritty details. If you haven’t seen Raw for yourself yet, follow the link below for a spoiler-free review; then, bookmark this page and come back again later.

Check out the video below from The AtZ Show for a concise yet thorough examination of Raw with special attention given to the film’s shocking ending. What I enjoy best about this video essay is that the narrator bases his conjectures on quotes made by writer/director Julia Ducournau at various festival panels. Have a watch and let us know what you think in the Comments section! Were you as compelled and disturbed by Raw as we were?
