Prediction or pipe-dream? You decide.
With Cult of Chucky, the 7th chapter in the enduring Child’s Play franchise launched by Tom Holland and Don Mancini in 1988, arriving on VOD & Blu-ray/DVD this October, conjecture regarding what fans can expect is running high. We know that Jennifer Tilly is returning as Tiffany and Alex Vincent will be back, reprising the role of Andy Barclay almost 30 years after first playing the tormented lad. We’ve also been told that the character Glen/Glenda, the progeny of Chucky and Tiffany, will make an appearance in some capacity.

Since it seems like a complete Child’s Play franchise reunion is in the works, I’m going out on a limb to predict that Mike Norris (Chris Sarandon) and Karen Barclay (Catherine Hicks) will both return in Cult of Chucky. Here’s the crux of my theory.
The post credits scene from Curse of Chucky, released in 2012, features Andy Barclay (Vincent) coming face-to-face with Chucky as an adult. Before the confrontation, Andy receives a call from his mother Karen. Last we heard, Karen had been admitted to a mental institution following the events of Child’s Play. So we know she’s still alive, and we know that Curse of Chucky takes place in an asylum. Could Karen be one of the older patients? I’m thinking it’s quite likely!
On the phone call, however, it sounds like Karen is out of the hospital. Andy says he’ll see her tomorrow for a birthday celebration. Then he asks, “How’s Mike doing?” This simply must be a reference to Mike Norris; some fans who noted this statement have theorized that Mike and Karen are actually romantically involved—perhaps even married. Watch the scene for yourself below.
Either way, if Cult of Chucky is aiming to bring the excitement of the entire franchise into a single film, Mike and Karen are necessary components. Neither Sarandon or Hicks are listed on the IMDB page for Cult of Chucky, but these could be intentional omissions. Time will tell.
We’ll know soon enough when Cult of Chucky arrives on Blu-ray and DVD on October 3rd, the same day it hits VOD platforms. Also arriving in virtual and retail stores the same day is Chucky: The Complete 7-Movie Collection. Check out the trailer and synopsis for Cult below.
Official Synopsis: “Confined to an asylum for the criminally insane for the past four years, Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when her psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic “tool” to facilitate his patients’ group sessions — an all-too-familiar “Good Guy” doll with an innocently smiling face — a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all. Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent), Chucky’s now-grown-up nemesis from the original Child’s Play, races to Nica’s aid. But to save her he’ll have to get past Tiffany (Oscar-nominee Jennifer Tilly), Chucky’s long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil doll.”
