We’ve been following news on the Conjuring 2 spinoff The Nun since the project was first announced in 2016. It’s part of an expanding, shared universe that includes previous Conjuring spinoff star Annabelle, who’s next film, Annabelle: Creation, will haunt US theaters on August 11th. We’re getting word via The Hollywood Reporter that The Nun has landed its leading man, and is shooting for a July 13th, 2018 release (Friday the 13th!).

Oscar-nominated actor Demian Bichir will star in The Nun, the latest thriller from New Line’s horror universe based on characters from James Wan’s The Conjuring movies. Plot details are being kept in the cloister, but Bichir will play a priest named Father Burke who is dispatched by Rome to investigate the mysterious death of a nun.
The script was penned by Wan and Gary Dauberman (IT, Annabelle: Creation); the production is scheduled to shoot this summer in Romania.

Official Synopsis: In 1977, paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren come out of a self-imposed sabbatical to travel to Enfield, a borough in north London. There, they meet Peggy Hodgson, an overwhelmed single mother of four who tells the couple that something evil is in her home. Ed and Lorraine believe her story when the youngest daughter starts to show signs of demonic possession. As the Warrens try to help the besieged girl, they become the next targets of the malicious spirit.
