Neill Blomkamp was a rising star following s series of films that proved he’s a master at combining classic sci-fi and modern horror troupes. After working with Sigourney Weaver on Chappie in 2015, the filmmaker has been inextricably tied to rumors of a 5th Alien movie, one that picks up where James Cameron’s Aliens left off.
When that project failed to materialize (following Ridley Scott’s successful behind-the-scenes maneuvers to wrest back control of the franchise he launched in 1979), Blomkamp seemed a bit beaten down by the experience. Still, he went back to his roots producing short films under his newly established Oats Studios banner.
