As the sixth season of The Walking Dead edges closer to its April 3rd finale, the tension continues to build. We’re at that point in which we sit anxiously, waiting for the other shoe to drop. It hasn’t happened yet, as the core group of protagonists are all still alive, but there are some big hints hitting the web that the sturdy assembly of Rick’s group will soon crack and crumble. And it’s not just obsessed fanatics suggesting we’ll see something profoundly impacting from the season six finale. The script itself is already shocking the participants of the show.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, Melissa McBride, who plays the loving, deceptive and headstrong Carol in everybody’s favorite AMC zombie show had some pretty strong feelings after reading the script for the season six finale episode.
“It was so very dark,” McBride says of the season six finale’s script. “I couldn’t say anything after I had finished reading it. I felt like I had dropped into a blackhole.”
While McBride isn’t spelling anything out directly, it continues to look more and more likely that Glenn is a goner in a few weeks. We’ve seen hints dropped by Maggie, we’ve seen hints dropped by Glenn himself. And, like the majority of the live-action series, the story is running as parallel to the source material as possible. And if you read the immensely popular Image title, you know Glenn meets an ugly, ugly demise when Negan finally shows his face.
We love Glenn. We sure don’t want to see the character killed off, but McBride’s intense response to the script indicates some big changes, or potential losses for the show. As of now both Carol and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) have had some very close calls with The Saviors. It isn’t out of the realm of possibility that either character could meet their demise in the finale, but with Maggie’s pregnancy, it may be even more jolting to see Glenn executed before ever having the chance to see his first child, leaving Maggie a widow in a horrific world.
Whatever scenario we end up with, it’s obvious that it’s some truly penetrating material. The Walking Dead may be breaking a few fanatical hearts in the weeks to come.
