Even if you aren’t a regular Horror Freak News reader, you’ve probably heard of the “Clownpocalypse”, the hysteria resulting from a spate of creepy clown sightings across the United States and the UK. Things were getting so out of hand, Master of Horror Stephen King even weighed in on the bizarre phenomenon:
“Hey guys, time to cool the clown hysteria—most of em are good, cheer up kiddies, make people laugh.”
Now, another horror icon has entered the fray; while John Carpenter’s statement is certainly more blunt and abrasive than King’s, he seems to focus his ire on those who use dangerous props in attempts to scare innocent civilians.
Per The Evening Standard, Carpenter stated:
“It’s getting ridiculous. These people are idiots, I guess I understand what they’re trying to do in trying to scare people, but it’s not right to run at people with a chainsaw. That’s not funny — it’s dangerous. I was visiting a friend in the emergency room and the curtain parted next to me, and this guy had been using a chainsaw on a tree stump and it hit something and bounced into his face. He was just about alive but man he was in pain. They were working on him trying to clean up the wound. Kids should put the chainsaws down. It’s a really scary world were living in.”
