Given the fact that both The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2 were surefire hits, one would simply expect a contract to shoot The Conjuring 3 would have already been passed around. We don’t have any insight in regards to a potential third film just yet.
But James Wan is thinking about it, make no mistake.
The red-hot director of The Conjuring films recently spoke with IGN and he did work a tiny little piece of information that may prove a strong building point in the not-so-distant future.
I do have something specific but I’m not going to say it. But I will say this – I do think Conjuring 1 and 2 are both set in the 70s, I think Conjuring 3 has got to be set in the 80s.
That’s not much, but it is a starting point. It’s a good starting point, I might add. While the story itself will ultimately require some intense and inventive writing to ensure these films offer something different and refreshing from here on out, there are only so many directions in which Jams Wan an the Hayes’ (who craft these scripts) can travel with these specific story roots. That said, it seems that if anyone can make lightning strike the place on multiple occasions, it’s James Wan.
We’ll learn more about this one before we know it. Right now it’s a good time to sit back, devour some popcorn and have the wits scared out of you while watching the surprisingly eerie sequel, The Conjuring 2 on the big screen.
The Conjuring 2 is already a commercial success, having earned more than $275 million over 25 days’ time.
