We don’t report much on Superhero movies here at Horror Freak News; while there are definitely aspects that cross both genres, it’s basically a case of apples vs. oranges. Of course, when we get word that two of horror’s most prominent directors are in the running to direct The Batman, starring Ben Affleck, well that’s news! It had previously been announced that Matt Reeves, who directed Cloverfield in 2008, was in final negotiations to direct, but apparently, he’s not the only one.
Per CinemaRunner, Ridley Scott and Fede Alvarez are both in the running to direct The Batman.
Well, this is an unexpected turn of events. According to The Hollywood Reporter, filmmaker Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes) has some fierce competition for the director’s chair on The Batman. The outlet is reporting that, while Reeves is currently in negotiations for the job, Warner Bros. is also talking to two other directors. One of them is Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe). The other is Ridley Scott.
Ridley Scott is, of course, the lauded director who launched the Alien franchise in 1979. He’s currently hard at work finishing his Prometheus-Sequel/Alien-prequel Alien: Covenant for a May release. Fede Alvarez has a much smaller filmography, but he’s batting 1000 as the director of Evil Dead in 2013 and Don’t Breathe in 2016. Either would make a fantastic choice for director!
We’ll keep you posted as details emerge. In the meantime, check out the trailer and synopsis for Alien: Covenant below.
