James Wan and Jason Blum are in development of a new doll and technology horror thriller called M3GAN. It’s no surprise with the recent success of Annabelle and fan favorite Chucky that another doll movie would be in the works. Wan has worked on several horror films featuring dolls such as Annabelle, Annabelle Creation, Saw, and Dead Silence.
The film will be directed by Gerard Johnstone (Housebound) and written by Akela Cooper (American Horror Story)
Synopsis: A brilliant toy company roboticist who uses artificial intelligence to develop M3GAN, a life-like doll programmed to emotionally bond with her newly orphaned niece. But when the doll’s programming works too well, she becomes overprotective of her new friend…with terrifying results.
In an interview with THR James Wand had this to say about the movie:
“Pretty much the concept is about embracing technology too much and relying too much on it,” Wan says. “And what happens with technology runs amok. It’s a commentary on the world we live in and it feels relevant.”
