Silverlake is a suburb of Los Angeles known for its dense population of hipsters, drawn to the areas’ many dive bars, food trucks, and vintage clothing shops. It’s also the setting of the next feature film from David Robert Mitchell, the writer and director of It Follows. The trailer for Under the Silver Lake looks like a mix of the hallucinatory surrealism of It Follows with the modern noir of Mullholland Drive. There’s also a bored millennial turning detective motif, reminiscent of I Don’t Feel at Home in the World Anymore and TBS’s Search Party.
