The latest poster for the Leatherface harkens imagery used on a previous TCM incarnation’s promotional push: The poster for 2006’s prequel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. The similarities are so striking it can’t be a coincidence and, in addition to the repetition of iconic imagery, there’s a hidden message buried in the subtext: Forget everything you’ve been told, and everything you think you know about the infamous Sawyer clan.

In case you hadn’t heard, Leatherface scribe Seth M. Sherwood had previously made clear that this latest film, also a prequel, is intended a canonical and faithful introduction to Tobe Hooper’s seminal masterpiece, released back in 1974. Clearly, he doesn’t want us to be influenced by anything we may recall from director Jonathan Liebesman’s prequel.
In other words: Don’t see the film with any preconceptions or expectations; get ready for something 100% original. Leatherface (directed by Alexandre Bustillo & Julien Maury) arrives exclusively on DirecTV on September 21st. The film stars Finn Jones, Stephen Dorff, and Lili Taylor. Check out the trailer and synopsis below.
Official Synopsis: In Texas, years before the events of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, in the early days of the infamous Sawyer family, the youngest child is sentenced to a mental hospital after a suspicious incident leaves the sheriffs’ daughter dead. Ten years later, he kidnaps a young nurse and escapes with 3 other inmates. Pursued by authorities including the deranged sheriff out to avenge his daughter’s death, the young Sawyer teen goes on a violent road trip from hell, molding him into the monster known now as Leatherface.
