Love it or hate it, there’s no denying that Jason Goes to Hell, the 9th installment in the seminal Friday the 13th franchise, is the most original in the bunch. Between the film’s fake-out beginning and the Freddy Krueger cameo, we see Jason in his true, supernatural form. The bounty hunter Creighton Duke (played by Steven Williams) was a worthy adversary and the inclusion of Hell mythos and demons give Jason Goes to Hell unique flare.
Official Synopsis: The secret of Jason’s evil is revealed. It is up to the last remaining descendant of the Voorhees family to stop Jason before he becomes immortal and unstoppable.
Jason Goes to Hell was directed by Adam Marcus and stars John D. LeMay, Kari Keegan, and Kane Hodder.
Of course, Jason Goes to Hell is hardly considered one of the franchises best installments; it holds a 24% “Freshness” rating on Rotten Tomatoes (only ahead of Part 3, Part 5: New Beginning, Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan, and Part 10: Jason X). But rumors of a kick-ass work print that was essentially gutted by the studio has fueled fan speculation that a Director’s Cut could make Part 9 a franchise favorite.

To that end, Friday fans Jared Johnson and Brandon Scott Murphree recently launched a petition seeking to make said Director’s Cut a reality. It states:
Jared Johnson and Brandon Scott Murphree are asking for everyone’s help, to bring attention to having Jason Goes To Hell made in a true “Director’s Cut”. Adam Marcus, director and co-writer of Jason Goes To Hell, has expressed interest in this being made. Many scenes were cut and unused during filming, including key special fx scenes showcasing the incredible work of KNB FX. Sadly, they never made the final cut. These scenes are strong contributions to this film and, best of all, they were shot. The footage exists, in fact many scenes were edited properly… nearly fully finished before being cut; and now we hope to have them cut back in to a definitive Jason Goes To Hell Uncut Director’s Cut the way Adam Marcus originally intended. We ask you to sign this petition in hopes we can pick up a company to work out this project and bring it to light! Please sign and help us get the attention that Jason Goes To Hell deserves!
At the time of this posting, the petition is just over 300 names shy of meetings its 2,500 signature goal. So why should you consider adding your digital John Handcock? Here’s what’s rumored to exist in the work print:
- An extended conversation between Duke (Williams) and Robert Campbell (Steven Culp);
- Diana (Erin Gray) has a conversation with her boyfriend Sheriff Ed Landis (Billy Green Bush);
- Additional police station encounters;
- Vicki’s (Allison Smith) boyfriend’s lost death scene;
- Steven (John D. LeMay) escapes into a parking lot;
- Extended Necronomicon scene;
- Jason appears as a fully grown “Hell Demon”;
- Extended jungle gym massacre scene;
- Steven (LeMay) “kills” Jason (Kane Hodder); and (most exciting to me personally),
- Lots of demon puppets pulling Jason (Hodder) down to Hell!
