Remember the spate of creepy clown sightings in 2016 that sent the country, nay the world, into a state of paranoid chaos? We dubbed the phenomenon The Clownpocalypse and reported on literally dozens of cases from the ridiculous to the downright harrowing. Things died down after Halloween (as most of us predicted it would), but a perfect storm may be brewing for a serious Clownpocalypse resurgence.
Not only is Halloween 2017 just around the corner, the release of both Andrés Muschietti’s IT and American Horror Story: Cult are sure to add flames to the fire. Yesterday, the first truly alarming creepy clown sighting of the year went down in Maine—and this one really ratchets up the terror.
On Tuesday, police arrested one in Maine, ambling down a rural street with a machete taped to his amputated arm, the Associated Press reports.
Residents first spotted the masked man in Hollis, Maine, at around 6 PM, local NBC affiliate WCSH reports. They told police the nightmarish figure—wearing a black hoodie and a clown mask—had been wandering down the road before he took off into the woods.
31-year-old Corey Berry was later apprehended and charged with criminal threatening; he claims it was all part of a prank. How Berry originally lost his arm was not revealed.
Do you guys agree that the machete-arm makes this a particularly alarming creepy clown sighting? Is it a coincidence that this guy is from Pennywise’s home state? Sound off in the Comments section.
It’s going to be a crazy season!
