Bryan Fuller’s TV series Hannibal premiered during the forefront of our recent horror TV renaissance. While shows like American Horror Story and The Walking Dead were becoming megahits, horror on TV was still considered risky, by no means a guaranteed success. Plus, airing on NBC meant Hannibal was shackled by FCC restriction AHS and TWD didn’t have to worry about. So when viewership plunged during the slow-burn Season 3, NCB’s feet got extremely cold.
In the 2 years since the show’s cancellation, Hannibal has amassed a huge cult following; the show has performed extremely well on streaming platforms and DVD sales were brisk. This resurgence, combined with the success of network TV horror shows like The Exorcist, NBC may be having second thoughts about putting Hannibal on the shelf.
In a recent interview on Post Mortem with Mick Garris, Fuller seemed so suggest the wheels are definitely in motion for the 4th season of Hannibal.
“I’ve had conversations with [Hannibal executive producer] Martha De Laurentiis,” he said. “I’ve had conversations with Mads [Mikkelsen] and Hugh [Dancy]. We’re all excited about the prospect of returning to the story. There’s some hurdles to get through… [But] I just had a great idea for season 4. There’s an interesting next chapter in the relationship between Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter that would be fascinating to unpack. I’ve shared it with the gentlemen and they’re both keen on it.”
Obviously, we’ll be keeping our ears to the ground, bringing you addition details on a possible Hannibal return as news emerges. Stay tuned! In the meantime, you can see Fuller back in top form by watching his new series American Gods on Starz. Check out a trailer and synopsis below.
