Godzilla: Resurgence is already the biggest film of 2016 in Japan. Also known as Shin Godzilla, the 31st film in the monster franchise has grossed over $51 million and will land on US shores this October. Funimation Films’ CEO and President Gen Fukunaga made the announcement yesterday:
“We are thrilled to bring Shin Godzilla to theaters across North America this October. Toho established Godzilla as one of the most iconic monsters in science fiction history and we’re honored to now be a part of that history with the theatrical release of this new movie. Fans will not want to miss this limited theatrical event.”
When Fukunaga says “limited” he’s not kidding. Godzilla: Resurgence will arrive in theaters on October 11th and will end its run on October 18th; the film will only screen on 440 screens nationwide. Tickets will go on sale on September 9th and can be purchased, HERE.
Official Synopsis: It’s a peaceful day in Japan when a strange fountain of water erupts in the bay, causing panic to spread among government officials. At first, they suspect only volcanic activity, but one young executive dares to wonder if it may be something different – something alive. His worst nightmare comes to life when a massive, gilled monster emerges from the deep and begins tearing through the city, leaving nothing but destruction in its wake. As the government scrambles to save the citizens, a rag-tag team of volunteers cuts through a web of red tape to uncover the monster’s weakness and its mysterious ties to a foreign superpower. But time is not on their side – the greatest catastrophe to ever befall the world is about to evolve right before their very eyes.
