With October just around the corner, supermarkets are stocking up on bags of candy and a bevy of Halloween-themed products. Skittles, for example, are releasing “Cauldron” and “Trick Plays” bags; pumpkin flavoring is added to anything and everything, and you can even find pints of Candy Corn Ice Cream. There’s one Halloween-themed food item, however, that will live in infamy, despite being a short-lived anomaly; I’m talking about Burger King’s Halloween Whopper.
Released in the fall of 2016, the Halloween Whopper featured a black bun and A1-Steak sauce, but was otherwise a normal burger. Brave fans of all things bizarre were eager to give the black beast a whirl, and reports were that it was a decent slab of meat. Unfortunately, the Halloween Whopper wouldn’t even last until October 31st. The gag item became an embarrassing stain on BK’s legacy.
The problem wasn’t that the Halloween Whopper tasted bad or made people sick; the problem was that it gave consumers green poop. The reaction to the burger became a viral buzz of epic proportion, with BK becoming the butt of infinite jokes (yes, pun intended!). Have a look at the videos below to reminisce on how green poop became a pop-cultural phenomenon for a hot minute.
