In 2013 James Wan continued on in his mission to cement himself as one of horror’s greatest contributors with the commercial hit The Conjuring. The film, shot on a $20 million budget, grossed more than $137 million domestically, while hauling in a worldwide figure of $318 million. It was nothing short of a stellar performer and it worked wonders to remind audiences that Wan is a very, very special talent.
The Conjuring will now officially be the third franchise that Wan has launched, the first two being the immensely popular Saw and the second being the surprise smash, Insidious.
Since the moment the sequel was announced fans have been screaming for more info on The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist. The masses want the details, and they want a look at the film, which is now in post-production. James Wan is finally answering the call.
The modern day mastermind just updated his Facebook page with a nice little message for fans:
“Alright folks, you’ve been bugging me for this, time to conjure up the frightening next case of @theconjuringmovie’s Ed and Lorraine Warren!!” Wan wrote. “#TheConjuring2 teaser trailer drops tomorrow! Meanwhile, here’s an appetizer. A teaser for the teaser, if you will.”
Wan writes with David Johnson, Chad and Carey Hayes. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will reprise their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren while Frances O’Connor (The Hunter), Simon McBurney (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation), Sterling Jerins (World War Z) and Maria Doyle Kennedy (Jupiter Ascending) will round out the rest of the cast.
No solid word on a synopsis for this one just yet, but given the nature of the first film it’s probably safe to assume we’ll see some insane haunted house scares and loads of possession chills.
Look for The Conjuring 2 to arrive in theaters on June 10th of this year.
