The original SUSPIRIA from Italian director Dario Argento is without a doubt one of the most sumptuous, gorgeous horror films ever made. Every frame is drenched in color, each scene beautifully crafted. It is widely considered to have one of the best film scores in history. Despite an iffy finale SUSPIRIA is a highly regarded horror classic and the absolute height of the Giallo genre. So of course it’s going to get remade.
Having been in development hell for quite some time Suspiria has seen a lot of different directors come and go but things finally seem to be going somewhere now that Luca Guadagnino is at the helm. Indiewire tells us that Guadagnino plans to reunite with two stars from his current film A Bigger Splash. Interestingly those two stars are Dakota Johnson and Tilda Swinton. Johnson is a pretty great choice to replace Jessica Harper. Probably best known for Fifty Shades of Grey she is currently shooting the two sequels back to back until June. Tilda Swinton is one of this generation’s most talented and diverse actors, you just have to see her in movies like Only Lovers Left Alive, Snowpiercer and We Have to Talk About Kevin to see how much range and talent that lady has.
This actually bodes quite well for this particular remake, it’s not some slapdash project with some inexperienced director put in charge like we have seen in the past.
