Back in September, we reported on a film that sent shockwaves through TIFF, a cannibal-themed horror movie so disturbing, it had viewers fainting in the aisles. To recap:
Per THR: “An ambulance had to be called to the scene as the film became too much for a couple patrons,” said Ryan Werner, who is handling the film’s marketing on the ground at the Toronto Film Festival and was at the screening.
We’re talking about Raw, a movie described as a “vegetarian’s nightmare”! Obviously, the kind of publicity the film earned at TIFF makes it almost irresistible to Horror Freaks who appreciate films that push the (bloody) envelope. Many of us will be lucky enough to catch Raw in select cities on March 10th, with VOD and Blu-ray/DVD releases to follow.
Raw, French writer/director Julia Ducournau’s psychological horror directorial debut which took the Fipresci prize at last May’s Cannes Film Festival during Directors’ Fortnight, will open Friday, March 10 via Focus World in select cities.
Official Synopsis: Garance Marillier portrays the teenaged Justine, who commences her studies at veterinary school to follow in her family members’ footsteps. Raised as a vegetarian, Justine is pressured at school to try meat for the first time. Once she does, she plumbs both the depths of her own soul and tests the limits of her darkest cravings.
We’re still waiting on an official trailer, but you can check out a clip in the video below.
