Slasher fans wept when Paramount shut down a planned Friday the 13th reboot back in 2016—mere weeks before it was set to go before the cameras. The rights will revert back to New Line at the end of the year, leaving many hopeful that a change in management will re-invigorate the classic yet long-stalled franchise.
Tommy Ross is a YouTuber who’s built an enviable following creating high-quality fan trailers for movies that don’t exist—but should! He just released a trailer for Friday the 13th 2019, one that imagines Crystal Lake in the off-season. Ice and snow would definitely give the franchise a chilling new spin (pun intended!). Give it a spin and let us know what you think in the Comments section!
Official Synopsis: My FAN MADE trailer for a new Friday the 13th reboot/sequel. I’m hopeful that a new film, as well as a new Nightmare on Elm Street film will be made in the wake of the huge success of the horror genre, thanks to films like IT and Get Out. It’ll most likely be greenlit after the new Halloween film is released.
A new Friday the 13th film was actually supposed to start filming last year but Paramount Pictures got cold feet after Rings failed critically and financially. First of all, Rings failed because it looked absolutely awful and no one wanted to spend money on something that looked so cheap and bland. Secondly, Rings, a PG-13 ghost story, is a lot different than Friday the 13th, a hard R franchise.
Since Friday the 13th is one of the most iconic horror titles, a new film should elevate the material and bring respect to the genre. The films aren’t known for their quality, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make a quality, well-crafted, smartly written film. Can’t wait to (hopefully) see Jason Voorhees back on the big screen.
