For those that don’t realize it, Jane Levy is the disgustingly gorgeous lass that fronted Fede Alvarez’s superb Evil Dead remake. And now we’re learning that Alvarez will once more call upon Levy to front his latest genre film, Don’t Breathe.
As far as we’re concerned, that’s amazing news. Levy was captivating as Mia in Evil Dead, and Alvarez did what no one believed possible: he made an amazing, terrifying contemporary rendition of Sam Raimi’s classic. If you ask younger crowds, they might even tell you that Alvarez’s Evil Dead is superior to Raimi’s. I can’t agree with that, but I can certainly say that Alvarez did us all remarkably proud, and we’re expecting magic from Don’t Breathe.
We’ve been quietly awaiting word on what kind of material Alvarez would tackle next, and now we know. Don’t Breathe is, well, breathing promise. Especially with the gorgeous Jane Levy involved.
In addition to Levy’s involvement, Dylan Minnette (Goosebumps), Daniel Zovatto (It Follows) and Stephen Lang (Avatar) will make appearances. Jane May Graves, Sergej Onopko, Katia Bokor and Jon Donahue round out the Don’t Breathe cast. That’s a respectable lineup!
The flick is already being pushed in the direction of international markets, looking to build buzz in advance of the August 26th US arrival.
The film was shot last summer in Budapest and Detroit.
Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues wrote the script for the project, which is produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert for Ghost House Pictures.
Synopsis: “Three teens who get away with perfectly planned home robberies have set their sights on one last payout that will get them out of crime forever. Their target: a reclusive blind man with millions of dollars in hiding. But as soon as they break into his home, the tables are turned and they find themselves trapped and fighting for survival against a psychopath with secrets of his own.”
