Ash vs Evil Dead came to its series finale on Starz last Sunday; it wasn’t the longest run, but 3 seasons thrilled countless Evil Dead fans while recruiting legions of newbies. The show’s end, however, wouldn’t be so painful if not for the fact that Bruce Campbell has officially retired the role of Ashley J. Williams. This means that, even if the Evil Dead franchise continues in some form, it’ll be a Campbell-free manifestation.
As if intentionally adding salt to our opened wounds, Campbell has announced Ash isn’t the only character he’s retired. Those holding out hope for a sequel to 2002’s oddball horror comedy Bubba Ho-Tep (a long-rumored project supposedly titled Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She-Vampires) I hope you’re sitting down—because it’s never going to happen.

In Bubba Ho-Tep, directed by Phantasm Mastermind Don Coscarelli, Campbell plays Elvis (or at least a man who believes he’s Elvis) who’s forced to battle an evil, ancient mummy who invades his retirement home. It’s become a cult smash over the years, with Campbell’s Elvis pulling in almost as many new fans as good old Ash.
Responding to a persistent Twitter fan, however, Campbell makes it perfectly, and devastatingly clear: Elvis has left the building.
Since you’re pushing it, I have officially retired from playing Elvis as well. Joe and Don both know this.
To me, each character has a lifespan. Elvis was best as a one shot deal – an iconic character in a really unique setting, guided by a great director. Why repeat? https://t.co/K9WqpFGu3X

Oh, I don’t know… maybe to bring joy into the hearts of hundreds of thousands of horror fans? Just my two pennies.
If you’ve never seen Bubba Ho-Tep for yourself, you really don’t know what you’ve been missing. Do yourself a favor and give it a spin tonight!
Hail to the King!
Official Synopsis: After falling into a lengthy coma following a freak accident involving hip gyration, a now aged Elvis Presley (Bruce Campbell) wakes up in an East Texas nursing home, where he befriends Jack (Ossie Davis), an African-American senior who claims to be President John F. Kennedy. After residents of their quiet retirement community start dying of dubiously unnatural causes, Elvis and Jack discover that the perpetrator is Bubba Ho-Tep (Bob Ivy), an Egyptian mummy with murderous intentions.
