Back in February, horror fans let out a collective gasp when Paramount unceremoniously dumped Friday the 13th Part 13 and World War Z Part 2 from their release schedule. And while the postponement turned out to be the death of Ft13P13, the World War Z sequel was cold, but not a corpse; like someone who fell through the ice on a lake in winter, the pulse slowed to almost nothing—but it was still detectable.
A few weeks back, we started reporting on rumors that Brad Pitt, whose Plan B Entertainment is also a producer of WWZ2, was keen to reunite with Fight Club director David Fincher. The two certainly made movie magic back in the 1990’s, and Fincher’s exactly what the film needs if World War Z is to become the franchise we all know it has the potential to be.
Well, it looks like the band is getting back together!
After previously taking the film off its calendar, Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions look to be moving forward with a “World War Z” sequel, with David Fincher directing and Brad Pitt back to star, thanks to the studio’s new chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos, according to knowledgeable sources.

Let’s face it, World War Z, directed by Marc Forster and released in 2013, had great special FX, but fell flat when it came to delivering a compelling story arc; not to mention, it absolutely butchered the source material, bearing almost no resemblance to Max Brooks’ bestselling novel. The film list 5 writers on IMDB, which makes sense as the film has no sustained narrative and feels like it was produced by committee.
David Fincher is pretty much the only hope the current incarnation of the franchise has. I for one think he’s just the man to turn make World War Z something extraordinary. Fingers crossed.
