It’s no secret that IT: Chapter Two underperformed at the box office when in comparison to the first part of the series only bringing in $466 million which is about a quarter of a billion less than the first installment. However, at the end of the day that’s still a success in the eyes of the studio and things are looking like the door may not be closed on Pennywise just yet.
When speaking to comicbookmovie.com the IT Chapter Two scribe Gary Dauberman was asked if there were more Pennywise stories that could be told:
“I do think it’s possible. Anything in the Stephen King Universe interests me but there’s only so much of the story we could tell in the two movies. There are definitely elements of the novel you could expand on and make its own movie. It’s just a question of whether or not people want to see it but I do think It was on this planet for a very, very, very long time and that’s a lot of bloodshed and a lot of stories to tell and I think you could do that for sure.”
So it looks like if there were spin-offs for the villain of the Stephen King novel, it would be more prequel than anything.
