Those who have seen Trey Edward Shults’ It Comes at Night this week (or read my review, below) know that it’s absolutely harrowing, but also challenging. With no answers offered up on silver platters, the film demands a certain level of commitment from its viewers. But this isn’t necessarily a bad thing; horror cinema is rife with examples of offerings designed to strain our brains while scaring us silly (like the films of David Lynch, or Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, for example).
