While Independence Day: Resurgence was a major disappointment, the box office success of Arrival proves that alien invasion flicks are hot. More proof: Russia is about to release Attraction, the market’s first extraterrestrial sci-fi with serious horror sensibilities. The trailer (below) is absolutely fantastic, reminiscent of The Darkest Hour, District 9, and War of the Worlds.
Fedor Bondarchuk, director of Russia’s all-time biggest local grosser, Stalingrad, has returned behind the camera for Attraction, the market’s first-ever alien invasion movie. From Art Pictures Studio and Vodorod, Attraction is being released locally via Sony on January 26, 2017. The epic sci-fi story sees lives forever changed when a mysterious flying space object crashes over Moscow. (Check out the trailer above.) Sony’s Columbia also released 2013’s Stalingrad which grossed over $52M in Russia and $11.5M in China.
