In 2007, we were rocked by the indie horror hit Teeth; directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein and starring Jess Weixler, John Hensley, and Josh Pais, the film explored the mythical Vagina Dentata, a representation of man’s simultaneous desire for and fear of female sexuality. Ultimately, Teeth is a tale of female empowerment and a warning to boys not to put their dicks or fingers places they don’t belong. If you never gave it a look-see, give the trailer and synopsis a spin below.
Official Synopsis: Dawn (Jess Weixler) is an active member of her high-school chastity club but, when she meets Tobey (Hale Appleman), nature takes its course, and the pair answers the call. They suddenly learn she is a living example of the vagina dentata myth, when the encounter takes a grisly turn.
Vagina Dentata (Latin for toothed vagina) describes a folk tale in which a woman’s vagina is said to contain teeth, with the associated implication that sexual intercourse might result in injury, emasculation, or castration for the man involved.
It’s been a few years, but The Tattooed Bakers in the UK made waves for baking up batches of Vagina Dentata cupcakes. While we’d have to ask our London readers if these beauties are still available, they were once sold at Eat Your Heart Out for £3.50 each. If the shop and these deliciously demented treats are long gone, at least they live on in photos!
