Bruce Campbell gave a lot of red carpet interviews during last weekend’s Saturn Awards, so some great info was bound to slip through the cracks. Thankfully, the folks at Bloody Disgusting unearth a juicy nugget nabbed by journalist Dawn Bourn. Not only did Campbell gush with enthusiasm for the upcoming 3rd season of Ash vs Evil Dead (currently wrapping production in New Zealand) he let out a plot detail sure to get fans of Sam Raimi’s seminal cabin-in-the-woods franchise excited.
Via Bloody Disgusting:
“Wait until you see Season 3, baby. Off the charts. We’re jumping off a cliff at the end. It’ll never be the same… the world will never be the same at the end of this season. There’s some big shit that happens. Ash’s daughter. Ash has a child. And she’s in trouble. She’s a target. Ya know, the demons are like the mafia… will go after your family. So he has to not only save the world – he has to raise a daughter. A teenager… an unruly teenager.”
The reference to an unruly daughter has already launched speculations of a tie in with Fede Alvarez’s 2013 Evil Dead remake. That film featured Mia (played by Jane Levy) a drug addict hoping to kick heroin who became the perfect vessel for Sumerian demons released by the Necronomicon. I think it’s fair to describe Mia’s behavior in Evil Dead as “unruly”. Check out the trailer below if you need a reminder.
Official Synopsis: Mia (Jane Levy), a drug addict, is determined to kick the habit. To that end, she asks her brother, David (Shiloh Fernandez), his girlfriend, Natalie (Elizabeth Blackmore) and their friends Olivia (Jessica Lucas) and Eric (Lou Taylor Pucci) to accompany her to their family’s remote forest cabin to help her through withdrawal. Eric finds a mysterious Book of the Dead at the cabin and reads aloud from it, awakening an ancient demon. All hell breaks loose when the malevolent entity possesses Mia.
Season 2 of Ash vs Evil Dead will arrive on Blu-ray/DVD on August 22nd. We don’t have a release yet for Season 3, but we’ll keep you posted. Stay tuned!
