The ongoing saga of a night watchman battling demonic animatronics at a Chuck E. Cheese’s knock-off has long been entertaining gamers who indulge in 5 Nights at Freddy’s, a first-person survival horror that’s truly demonic. While efforts to produce a live-action film adaptation have been touch-and-go, we’re getting word that Blumhouse has teamed with Gremlins scribe Chris Columbus to get the project rolling in earnest.

Blumhouse landed Five Nights at Freddy’s last March when movie rights were put in turnaround by New Line. Every genre filmmaker wanted it, but Blumhouse landed the property because producer Jason Blum won the allegiance of creator [Scott] Cawthon.
