From the early days of cinema, films were being remade. I can’t tell you how many times a film from Frankenstein has been remade by many different filmmakers at the helm, from the earliest being a turn of the century version made by Thomas Edison of all people. Of course, we are all most familiar with the James Whale version from Universal but to this day there continue to be more and more versions of the monster.
So remakes are really not a new thing in the realm of Hollywood. Having a THIRD rendition of the Bob Clark classic BLACK CHRISTMAS is not something that is shocking. However, the rating for the film kind of is.
Keeping with the current trend of trying to make horror accessible to more people, the current incarnation of BLACK CHRISTMAS will be rated PG-13. A far cry from what the original 1974 classic and even the 2006 remake which was a pretty intense slasher film..
The 2019 version of the film is going to be rated PG-13 for violence, terror, thematic content involving sexual assault, language, sexual material, and drinking. Apparently not enough to get an R rating.
Black Christmas brings the holiday cheer to cinemas on Friday, December 13th.
