It’s never fun to talk about a horror film underperforming at the box office or in the critical sense, but unfortunately, that’s what has to happen right now.
Blumhouse and Universal Pictures Black Christmas, a remake of Bob Clark’s 1974 Christmas horror film – and the second attempt thereof – seemingly has failed at not only the box office but on a critical level. With an estimated $4.42 million domestically and $3.1 Million overseas, and a D+ score over at CinemaScore, the film seems to be a disappointment.
The budget of the film is reported at about $5 Million so recouping costs on it to at least break even probably isn’t going to be an issue, but with all of the buzz surrounding the picture, this is a far cry from the $10 million opening that was predicted. What’s even more strange is that it opened on a holiday weekend unopposed, and still managed to make less than $5 Million.
