It only recently occurred to me that Ash (played by Bruce Campbell) from the Evil Dead franchise and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) from Star Wars have a lot in common. Okay, maybe not a lot, but they both lost their right hands in battle and that’s a pretty big similarity. Both are arguably better for the loss, adapting with the assistance of available technologies. And the way Ash swings his chainsaw, he could probably go toe-to-toe with any lightsaber wielding renegade Jedi.

It’s an unlikely mashup that works incredibly well, highlighting the darkness of both franchises without losing the comic elements that make Evil Dead such a favorite.
