In addition to the extreme horrors of the 21st Century (terrorism, school shootings) there are innumerable smaller indignities to face and struggle through on a daily basis. Technology, specifically, has revealed itself to be a friend and enemy of humanity in equal measure. It all speaks to the banality of evil, the mind-numbing routines that seek to extinguish individuality while promoting rampant consumerism.
Artist Al Margen has completed a series of drawings that illustrate the perils of modern life with stark poignancy. From our broken education system to the links between sex and money, and even anorexia, they’re equally engrossing and harrowing. But just as art has the ability to hold a brutal mirror up to society, it can heal the very wounds it identifies.
