Horror fans who came of age in the 1980s and connoisseurs of all things dark and enigmatic were ecstatic when word dropped last week that a 10-episode prequel to The Dark Crystal is in the works at Netflix. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will air sometime in 2017; check out the trailer and synopsis below.

We can expect interest in all things Dark Crystal related to surge as we approach the premiere of Age of Resistance, so stock up on those Funko POPS and Re-Action Figures before they become rarities! With renewed interest also comes an increase in retrospectives, as fans dig into the film’s fascinating history. To that end, we’ve unearthed some rare footage of some early motion-test performed by Jim Henson & Company .
While the designs are clearly rough, you may be surprised by how creepy some of these characters initially were. Jen and Kyra, the Gelflings, for example, have solid black pupils like The Black Eyed Children of creepypasta. The Mystic puppet is more closely related to its Skeksis counterpart, sporting a solid beak and a somewhat menacing expression.
